FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions about this product

What is privacy mode and how does it work?

The lens physically retracts inside the housing when activated, preventing any viewing. Unlike software-only solutions, this hardware-based design provides verifiable privacy when you're home.

How does 2K+ compare to 1080p?

2K+ delivers 2560x1440 pixels versus 1080p's 1920x1080, providing significantly more detail for identifying faces, reading text, or watching baby movements in cribs.

What is a starlight sensor?

A starlight sensor captures vivid color images in low light where standard cameras would need infrared night vision. You get natural colors for better identification without black-and-white footage.

Can this pan/tilt camera cover an entire room?

Yes. Adjust viewing angles remotely through the app to check areas that would typically require multiple fixed cameras. Monitor different spots on demand rather than one fixed angle.

How does smart detection differentiate between people and pets?

Algorithms analyze movement patterns, sounds, and visual characteristics to identify people, baby crying, or pet actions. You receive targeted alerts instead of constant motion notifications.

What triggers the sound and light alarm?

Detected motion activates both an audible warning and visual lighting. This dual alert deters intruders while notifying you of activity.

Can I schedule automatic privacy activation?

Yes. Create schedules in the Tapo app for specific times, such as when you're typically home, ensuring automatic privacy without manual activation each day.

Does baby cry detection work through walls?

Baby cry detection works best when the camera is in the same room as your baby. The microphone may pick up louder sounds through thin walls, but optimal performance requires nursery placement.

How do I control pan and tilt remotely?

Swipe your screen in the Tapo app to manually adjust angles, or ask Alexa or Google Assistant for hands-free positioning.

Can I turn off the lens when I'm home?

Yes. Activating the hardware-based feature physically conceals the lens, preventing any viewing and addressing indoor camera security concerns.

Perfect camera for monitoring

"Used to monitor activity inside and outside. Stable connection to wifi; clear picture; well designed app; records audio and video to mini SD card; subscription offered by not required. $24. 99 last year; higher this year no doubt because of tarriffs."

At the same time I

"At the same time I got these C220's, I also got a pair of C110's, so comments here apply to both unless noted. First, the good - I'm quite happy with the image quality, including night vision, which gave great clarity and even lighting. I'm also happy with the ease of integrating these into my Synology Surveillance Station. Now the rest (one of these was my own darned fault) - I'm not enthused with having to create an account during setup. I'm not happy that the 110 flags my wife speaking as "crying baby". The 220 doesn't do this, but because we have no baby, I'm can't be sure if it's just being more accurate or if it wouldn't flag the baby at all. A learning function would be awesome here, as I'd like to teach it to treat my Mother-in-Law's night terrors as a sound event. I don't realistically expect a feature like that at the 110's/220’s price point. I just think it would be great. I don't like the glowing red eyes staring back at me in a dark room. This one is completely on me. I saw 850nm advertised as invisible, and presumed it meant the LED's. I was wrong. Ideally, I should have gone with something that had 940nm, but at the low price of these things, it's not worth the cost of returning them. They'll do just fine if I don't put them in bedrooms."
