Works well, easy set up
"Works well, easy set up and just a tad smaller than the WEMO it replaced, which made wiring into a cramped work box easier. Much more responsive than the old WEMO equipment."

The Matter-Certified Single Pole Smart Dimmable Switch by Tapo offers a quick and easy setup process, though opinions on its Matter compatibility and the associated app experience are mixed. Some users find it a game changer, while others see it as a step backwards in home automation.

"Works Perfectly! Easy setup."
"I have been excited about Matter for several years and jumped at a chance to order this TP-Link Matter switch. As with all switches, installation requires at least a minimal familiarity with electrical work. I had no issues getting mine in. You can use the TP-Link Tapo app to set this up, but the draw for me was Matter. Using the code on the front of the switch (write it down before you put the plate on), I could set it up directly in both the Alexa and Apple Home apps. Both apps can now control it, And the TP-Link app was not required. The setup was quick and easy. No Wi-Fi issues at all. From there, I could associate it with automation, just like any other smart device. Dimming works smoothly, and the build quality is fine. Prospective buyers should note that this is only a single pole and will not work in a three-way installation. I do hope that TP-Link releases three-way Matter switches soon, as I have several places where I would like to use them."
"I own a large amount of the TP-Link Kasa switches. The hardware is nearly identical but the setup experience was noticeably easier. I did not need the Tapo app in order to use the switch. As soon as the switch was powered on my Android phone found the device and asked me to scan in the QR code. I followed the menu in the Google Home app and the switch was online and functional in a few minutes. The process was exactly what it should have been on the previous generation. The switch auto detects the line and load wires so there is no risk of damaging the switch like I have done in the previous generation. I did not have to calibrate the dimmer, it worked as expected out of the box. My only complaint is these switches are not supported by the Kasa app. This means I have to use a 3rd party app to integrate all the products together. The Kasa switches do show up in Google home so if I want to automate the Tapo and Kasa switches I will have to use the Google Home app. TP-Link really needs a common app for all their products. I use the Kasa app so I can pre-program the exact lighting conditions I want in my media room for watching movies. The changes the settings on 5 different switches at once and is really handy."
"This is a nice smart switch and is well built. I like that it has a UL listing unlike some brands I have bought in the past. I have used the Kasa branded products from TP-Link in the past and decided to try Tapo. Just as a heads up, the two brands from this company require separate apps. This is a little annoying since I try to have less applications on my phone. There is also no difference I can see between this and their Kasa model KS225. If you are already in that ecosystem, then I would stay in it. There is a cost difference to having Matter and if you dont need the off-cloud functionality, then save the money and go without. It was easy to set up and if you have replaced a light switch before, then this will be easy for you. As stated, you do need a neutral so keep that in mind before ordering. Something to note if you like to match outlet covers, the one that comes with it is not really a match for any existing ones at the big box stores, so unfortunately it will be a little bit different than the outlets in the room. If its not close to another cover plate it is not bad, but when they are close it becomes noticeable. One last note is that my box looks like it had been opened and resealed, but the sticker looks the same as the factory one so maybe they just needed to add something to the package. Overall, I like it and having the ability to set up routines and turn on and off lights from anywhere is cool. I can recommend this brand and if youre looking to get into home automation, I would look at the entire lineup Tapo offers and make sure the ecosystem fits all your needs."
"Installation was simple and the switch fits in a modern single gang box without any issues. This is not traditional decora rocker switch. Instead it a momentary switch that either turns on or off the light when the Botton of the paddle is pressed. When off a circular light is eluminated on the switch (see pic 1), When on a series of LEDs show the current brighness level (pic 2), Brightness can be adjusted up/down with the two small buttons on the top of the switch. Controlling the device via smart home. I recommend installing the TAPO app first as there is a firmware update that will be installed (Latest firmware 1.0.2 at the date I wrote this). I then used Apple HomeKit to add the device via the QR code that comes in the box, which after a several seconds added the device to HomeKit using the matter protocol. Once added to HomeKit I turned on pairing mode (in HomeKit) and added it to home assistant. Both worked flawlessly and I can control the light either physically or via the Home or Home Assistant apps. Other thoughts. 1. This is a Matter over WiFi device, not Matter over Thread. Good, if you don't have a thread border router (Apple TV, Nest Hub, Eero etc) but it does require 2.4 GHz Wifi to function. I personally would prefer Matter over thread as thread is a mesh network with built in redundancy and avoids crowding my WiFi network. 2. This device is defined as a Light, not a switch. Not sure if that is a limitation of the matter specification or the device. 3. The face plate attaches with four plastic taps and requires a significant amount of force to remove. I was concerned that I would break one of the taps, which I didn't. A standard decora plate would also work with this if that did happen."
"This smart switch is easy to install and includes everything you need to get up and running quickly. We have a ceiling fixture that uses 8 individual light bulbs that we wanted to automate and this is working perfect. Purchasing 8 individual smart bulbs was expensive and now I can repurpose those around the house in other places. This switch makes that fixture and 8 bulbs controllable from one switch. It has integrated well with our smart home and so far there have been no issues. It works well with our other TP-Link devices and we couldn't be happier. Overall, a great purchase, especially when needing to control multiple bulbs/fixtures with one switch."
"This is not a generic light switch because TAPO is made by TP Link. You get the same quality and feature. You get to use google voice or Amazon Alexa to activate your light switch. High Quality!"
"This is not my first TP-Link smart switch and I like this one even better than the previous ones I ordered. The main reason is that it now supports the MATTER industry standard for IoT devices. That means that it is compatible with most if not all smart assistants and systems such as Alexa, Google, HomeKit, and more. Since I have a lot of experience installing this type of switch, I found it very easy to do. The app works great, but to me, the best feature actually is its compatibility. I did lose some flexibility with the MATTER mode, but it is just because it is a new implementation which can be improved with software and because there was nothing I needed that the MATTER protocol couldn't provide. Highly recommended."
"As one of the first products to integrate with matter it is a disappointment that it does not use the low-power mesh networking protocol Thread. It uses WiFi. I don't want all 30 switches in my house on WiFi. That's a network congestion problem for my other devices and a new network management problem. Great price compared to other solutions that do use a proprietary mesh networking protocol."
